Bob receives his MBE from HM The Queen in 2004His charity work and fund-raising for sports clubs is legendary and as a result he was awarded the MBE in 2004.
Two years later he found himself entered in Who’s Who which only lists those who reached the highest level of achievement in their field. Bob is believed to be the first after dinner speaker so honoured.
In 2013 he was selected to be President of Kent County Cricket Club in recognition of his 30 years of service to the County.
He has been a member of the Lord’s Taverners for 28 years where he is in a second spell on the Board of Trustees. He is an Honorary Barker in the Variety Club, a member of the Variety Club Golfing Society and of the Grand Order of Water Rats.

He has been presented with awards for his work by the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association and the Royal London Society for the Blind.
He has raised tens of thousands of pounds for his beloved Old Wilsonians where he played sport for 35 years and where he is a Past President, Life Member and a Vice-President. More recently he raised nearly £250,000 in 14 years for his village cricket club at Bells Yew Green which enabled them to buy a long lease on their ground and build a pavilion.
Along with the above he is a Vice=President of Dulwich Hamlet FC, Old Wilsonians FC, Tonbridge Angels FC, Middlesex Wanderers FC and Frant CC.
He is a former Vice-President of Crystal Palace FC, a Member of Kent CCC and Les Ambassadeurs.
Professionally he is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (MCIPR), the Society of Authors and the National Union of Journalists.
